Set Your Sights on Shanghai, China

Experience Shanghai’s rich history of film and architecture on this multi-faceted tour of the city.

About Your Trip

Take an entertaining trip through the Shanghai of the 1930s at Shanghai Film Group’s mockup of Nanjing Road. View the costumes and props at the media production park, which hosts sets for movies and television shows.

Feel the pulse of the busy Shanghai streets on the sidecar tour as you swiftly take in some of the best views of the city. Dabble in delicious meals at traditional Chinese restaurants. Visit The Bund, a popular waterfront area of the city that offers scenic views of not just skyscrapers and the river, but diverse and impressive architecture. Buildings to see include the Renaissance-style Great Northern Telegraph Building and the China Merchants Bank Building, a neo-Classical representation of China’s early efforts toward modernization.

What we love:
• The architectural styles of the buildings that line The Bund range from Baroque Revival to Art Deco.
• The Shanghai Film (Group) Co. Ltd is a fascinating site for film and television shooting, sightseeing and cultural communication.
• You will have a full day of leisure to explore some of Shanghai’s gems, such as Yuyuan Garden (also known as “Yu Garden”), a classical garden that has beautiful ponds, pavilions and the 5-ton (4,536-kilogram) Exquisite Jade Rock.

Destination

The Pearl of the Orient. Paris of the East. The City Upon the Sea. Shanghai has been known by many names since it was founded almost 1,300 years ago. Today, it is one of the world’s most populous urban centers and a favorite travel destination among jetsetters from around the globe. Even though the modern city is home to the Shanghai Tower, the world’s 2nd-tallest tower at 2,073 feet (632 meters), it also boasts impressive Art Deco buildings from its prolific growth in the 1920s and 1930s, and plenty of historic architecture, including Jing’an Temple.

Other signs of Shanghai’s transformation include areas such as The Bund, the city’s former “Wall Street,” which is now the site of exclusive boutiques, hotels and restaurants. Parks also embody the idea of old and new living in harmony throughout the city. Yuyuan Garden epitomizes classic Suzhou-style landscaping while Century Park is the city’s answer to New York’s Central Park.
